Fender, a brand synonymous with rock’n’roll is renowned for its iconic electric guitars like the Stratocaster, played by legends such as Eric Clapton and The Edge of U2. However, Fender has also made significant strides in the acoustic space. While working at IDEO we designed a new family of acoustic amplifiers, including a professional model and one with stereo effects. This project involved gathering insights from a diverse group of users and testing early prototypes to explore aspects like portability, storage, materiality, and form.

The new Fender acoustic amplifiers stand out from their electric counterparts by emphasizing the pure, natural sound central to acoustic music. They feature a unique bent plywood manufacturing technique that enhances sound quality and offers a distinct design. Additionally, these amps are equipped with simple, intuitive controls and illuminated features, balancing high-tech performance with an analog feel. Designed for portability and maneuverability, they cater to acoustic artists who need reliable, lightweight equipment for their performances.
